Bhinna Vinyasa, a coproduction by Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts (Bengaluru) and Fabbrica Europa (Florence) in collaboration with CSRT Teatro della Toscana / Teatro Era, Pontedera with the support of Ministry of Culture (Govt. of India), Goethe Institut/Max Muller Bhavan Bengaluru, TNQ Pvt. Ltd., Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Norwegian Embassy (New Delhi) and with the patronage of Embassy of India (Rome) is touring in Italy in June- July 2017. Bhinna Vinyasa could be described as a realm of changing configurations / assemblages. It explores metaphysical journeys prompted by internal and external forces resulting in profound changes in the lives of individuals and communities. Images from arts and literature morph with the recollections of contemporary lived experiences where the archetypes, mundane and the imaginary coalesce to give you an immersed experience.

For ‘Secret Florence’, a project realized within "Estate Fiorentina 2017" (2017 Florence Summer) that aims at unveiling the connections between contemporary artistic languages and the extraordinary and less known historical heritage of Florence, Attakkalari presents Twine (a trio created by Hema Bharathi Palani and performed with Meghna Nambiar and Sylvester Mardi) and Vanna Vativukal (choreographed by Jayachandran Palazhy and commissioned by fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani for the Bridal Couture week in New Delhi) in Refettorio Ex Scuola Marescialli (6, Piazza Stazione Santa Maria Novella, Florence) as a site specific repeat show at h 18.00 on 12 June and h 19.00 on 13 June, 2017.

Attakkalari’s Diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media grows bigger and more prominent every year. This year we celebrate the graduation performance of the first and second year of the diploma together in a grand manner at a befitting venue – Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru – on 14th August 2017 at 7pm. Scintillating performances in Contemporary Dance, Bharatanatyam, Kalaripayattu and a special piece in Chhau for the first time ever, choreographed by Indian and international choreographers and performed by both first and second year students will enthral the audience. Tickets are now available at Attakkalari office from Monday to Friday - 10 am to 5 pm and could also be purchased online through bookmyshow (for inquiry or support, please contact +91 99729 50973).

The Diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media has now gained considerable popularity as a one-of-its-kind course in India and is currently in its 11th year. Students engage with fresh and innovative contemporary movement language as well as the somatic wisdom from Indian physical and performance traditions in this unique 2-year Diploma course. Students also have the option of doing it as a one-year certificate course if preferred. The Academic year of this full-time and physically demanding course is from September to August, and classes run from 8 am to 5.30 pm - Monday through Friday, culminating in a grand public graduation performance every August.

Auditions are ongoing and seats are filling fast for the upcoming batch beginning in September 2017. In a unique event that brings together diverse population of Bengaluru under one roof sharing the joy of movement, Santhulan celebrates the performance by professionals and amateurs in equal measure. Students of Attakkalari’s community classes will showcase performances that came out of the various movement vocabularies that they have learned over the past few months on Sunday, 16th July 2017 at 6 pm at Gurunanak Bhavan Auditorium, Bengaluru.

The community classes are designed to increase mental and physical agility, self-esteem and confidence in children and adults. They offer avenues of self-expression in a safe environment, insight into other cultures through music and movement, and the possibility of making new friends – a fun way to celebrate life and enjoy the company of others. Attakkalari’s artistic director Jayachandran Palazhy and the repertory’s rehearsal director Hema Bharathi Palany will lead workshops and seminars in Beijing from 17th to 30th July 2017 during when, Hema Bharathi will also perform her solo – Trikonanga. Other members of the repertory company will join them later for performances and workshops in Guiyang during the first week of August 2017.


Attakkalari in partnership with TransMedia Technologies is launching a programme to extend support to artistes and creative enthusiasts within and outside Bengaluru to realise their pet projects in spacious studios with technical facilities. With all studios equipped with mirrors, sprung wooden dance floor, Wifi, CCTV, water facilities, we believe in catering for whatever work regime you set for yourself. The venue is suitable to host a diverse range of event productions ranging from dance, photography, workshops, and rehearsals to auditions, writing sessions, storytelling and seminars.
