Attakkalari India Biennial 2015

The next edition of Attakkalari India Biennial (AIB), South Asia's largest international contemporary dance festival, will be held in venues across Bangalore from 6th to 15th February 2015. Programmed around the theme 'Dance Connect', AIB 2015 is organized by the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts (ACMA) to foster new connections in producing, presenting and receiving contemporary dance locally as well as globally. True to this theme, Attakkalari has devised a series of activities to connect individuals, communities, localities and organizations right across Bangalore and indeed throughout India and internationally. AIB 2015 will be officially launched with an exciting performance by the Attakkalari Repertory on Tuesday 26th and Wednesday 27th August 2014 at 7-30 pm at Ranga Shankara Theatre, JP Nagar. There will also be a public discussion on the “Role of the Arts in Education” at 5-30pm on 27th August.

Jayachandran Palazhy, Artistic Director of Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, says “AIB 2015 will mark the coming of age of contemporary dance practices in India and will open up new avenues for dance artists and audiences alike.”

The Diploma Graduation 2014

It’s been eight years since Attakkalari launched its Diploma in Movement Arts & Mixed Media and the programme has grown from strength to strength with each passing year.  A year of hard work that transforms body and mind, excellent faculty to deliver a professional training course in contemporary dance and allied subjects, modules with masters of Indian physical and folk traditions and much more make this programme still the only one of its kind in the country.

Now Attakkalari’s studios reverberate with the sounds of 27 students in intense rehearsals as the class of 2013 - 2014 prepare for their graduation. Do join us for an exciting evening of performance presentations at 7 pm on Friday 22nd August, 2014 at the JSS Auditorium, Shivarathreeswara Centre, 1st Main, 8th Block, Jayanagar, Bangalore 560082

 

Transmedia Technologies at the Metro Plus Theatre Festival 2014

The Metro Plus Theatre Festival, organized by The Hindu, is one of India’s most prestigious theatre festivals, presenting award-winning productions from the world over for discerning audiences in five different cities in India over the month of August.  As has been the case for over five years now, this year too, Transmedia Technologies will be hard at work behind the scenes at the Bangalore, Coimbatore, Kochi and Hyderabad editions of the festival, deploying its technological expertise to ensure that the technical needs of every theatre group whether from Mumbai, Manipur, Chennai or Seoul, South Korea are met and exceeded.

Upcoming Master classes and Workshops

 

 

 

In our unrelenting quest to be as inclusive as possible and to reach out to the wider community, we are rolling out a whole lot of workshops and master classes for experienced dancers and the general public alike as a part of our “Dance Connect” initiative, in the lead up to the Attakkalari India Biennial ’15.

Manisha Gulyani: Towards the end of August, we will be hosting a Master class in Kathak by Manisha Gulyani.

Saturday  30th August and Sunday 31st August  – 2 pm to 4 pm


Hofesh Schechter: Following the last hugely oversubscribed master class by the Hofesh Schechter Dance Company, we will once again be hosting this acclaimed company from the UK for a master class on Contemporary Dance and the company's unique technique. Please register in advance to avoid disappointment.

Tuesday 16th September 10 am to 2 pm (tentative date)


Scottish Dance Theatre: We will also be hosting the dancers from the Scottish Dance Theatre Repertory who will be conducting a master class on their distinctive movement vocabulary with an emphasis on Contemporary Dance and Technique. The company's workshops last year were a huge hit with professional dancers as well as   students from many schools in Bangalore.

Saturday 27th September 2 pm to 5 pm and Sunday 28th September 12 noon to 3 pm


Avant Garde: And finally, we will be hosting the highly acclaimed Avante Garde Dance Company from London who will be conducting a master class in Hip-hop, Choreography, Repertoire work and Technique.

Sunday 16th November 2 pm to 5 pm

Sanchari Mobile Theatre - AadhaaraChakra show at Kochi

 

AadhaaraChakra - A Dancelogue, Attakkalari’s multi-media production traverses intangible spaces, taking the audience to distant lands, architecture and memories as well as, vivid contemporary urban landscapes and experiences. This mesmerising production was recently showcased in Kochi at the Fine Arts Hall on the 28thof June. It was very well received by the discerning audience as well as by the print and electronic media.

Workshops & Masters Classes at Kochi

In addition to the performance itself, Attakkalari Repertory dancers conducted workshops as part of the Education Outreach programme at Kochi. The excitement and keen interest in Attakkalari's movement technique was evident in the committed participation by the local professional dancers in Kalady Sree Sankara Sanskrit University and the Floor Dance Studio as well as, with students of the Global Public School in Kochi.
 

Rehearsal Director at Vienna & London

It has been an eventful year for the Rehearsal Director of the Attakkalari Repertory, Hemabharathy Palani. A very senior dancer who has been associated with Attakkalari for many years now, Hema was invited to participate in the Impulstanz Dance Festival in Vienna from the 19th to the 25th of July. This was immediately followed by her final stint in the Sadler's Wells Summer University Workshop, a four year programme for which she was one among an elite group of 14 professional dance artistes from around the world who were selected. This year the workshop was from the 28th of July to the 2nd of August at Rosebury Avenue in London.
