MeiDhwani at IGNITE Festival

Attakkalari will be presenting its internationally acclaimed production MeiDhwani - Echoes of the Body in New Delhi on 31st October at the Indraprastha Millenium Park, Gate No 1, Ring Road, New Delhi as part of the IGNITE festival for Contemporary Dance 2012, organised by The Gati Dance Forum. In an unravelling spiral, MeiDhwani portrays individuals who are captives of circumstance and history. By linking the Tamil and Sanskrit words Mei (Body) and Dhwani (Echo or Suggestion), the word MeiDhwani subtly alludes to ‘Echoes of the Body’ in imagined landscapes.

Masterclass by James MacGillivray
James MacGillivray, Artistic Director, Scottish Dance Theatre will be facilitating an exciting, short module of Contemporary Dance Technique and Creative Workshops over two consecutive weekends at Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts. Designed for professional students and dancers to expand their enquiry into technical and performance skills, technique classes will encourage participants to work in a grounded and centred way, but also to focus on expansive movement, use of weight, and artistic expression. Classes will also incorporate improvisation, games, and structures which encourage creativity and connection with the group. Creative sessions will prepare the mind and body, and encourage a playful approach to participants exploring their own movement. Working on composition and choreographic skills, students will create dances in response to tasks, themes and movement ideas drawn from SDT's repertoire. Both classes will be indicative of the style and creativity embedded in Scottish Dance Theatre’s work.
Date: 10th & 11th and 17th & 18th November 2012 Timing: 3pm – 5pm Max registration: 30 students Fee: 2000/- plus service tax 12.36% |

Class of 2011-12
An enthusiastic audience of proud parents and supportive friends and well-wishers, cheered the Diploma class of 2012 during an evening of performances to mark their graduation. The Chief Guest for the evening, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah distributed the certificates to the graduating students. Scarcely has the door closed on one group of students and another batch of students has begun their year-long intensive training programme! In fact the door never closes and for most students of dance the graduation only marks the beginning of their journey into a lifetime of learning!
