The sixth batch of students of Attakkalari’s Diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media are in the throes of rehearsals for their GRADUATION presentations.  The evening is a showcase of the students’ work, the culmination of their studies over the year.  The function will be held on Friday, August 24th, 2012 at 7pm at the JSS Auditorium in Jayanagar, Bengaluru. All are welcome.

Attakkalari performs at the Pollinator 1 Bee Festival

A three-day festival and workshop on the importance of honeybees is being organized in Chennai on August 2nd, 3rd and 4th 2012.  This unique festival aims at bringing to the public domain issues and efforts that are critical to the survival of a threatened species, the survival of the fragile eco-system and our  environment.  The festival is being organized by The Asian Heritage Foundation.  The Attakkalari Repertory Company has been invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the festival. Attakkalari has created a special site-specific multimedia dance production to mark this occassion. The performance will be held on August 2nd, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency in Chennai.

Footprint - A Dance Production in Denmark

Footprint is a collaboration between Indian and Danish dancers and musicians which aims to bring diverse aspects of both cultures into a single performance.  Three senior dancers from the Attakkalari Repertory: Hemabharthy PalaniKeya Ann D'Souza and Denny Paul have travelled to Denmark to work with Birgitte Bauer-Nielsen, Artistic Director of the Yggdrasil Dance Ensemble and three Danish dancers to create this new work.

The music is composed by the Danish Pianist and Composer Niels Lan Doky, his Danish trio and an array of distinguished Indian musicians.  The artistic concepts dabble with notions of movement, time and space and the movement sequences will contain a blend of Indian Classical Dance, Contemporary Indian Dance, Martial Art, Yoga and Modern Dance, Ballet and Release Technique. Footprint will premiere at Tivoli Concert Hall, Copenhagen on September 6th and 7th. The performance is part of the INDIA TODAY/ COPENHAGEN TOMORROW, a festival of art, music, dance, film, design and fashion, literature, media, education, science and business.


Attakkalari at the Sadler's Wells Summer University


Attakkalari Repetory's senior dancer, Hemabharthy Palani, was invited to the Sadler's Wells Summer University in July 2012  to take part in a two-week intensive residency led by award-winning choreographer and author Jonathan Burrows. The focus for the residency was on choreographic and compositional process, performance and philosophies, investigating how a dance can be made and what it might communicate to the spectator.

Sadler's Wells is the UK's leading dance house, uniquely dedicated to bringing the very best international and UK dance to London audiences.

Recent Events
Facets 2013

The six-week international choreography residency to be held between December 5, 2012 and January 23, 2013 received over 160 applicants from around the globe. The selection process was difficult and the jury of experts were excited by the potential of emerging choreographic work submitted by the applicants. The fifteen choreographers shortlisted for the residency will be announced shortly. These choreographers will debut their work at the Attakkalari India Biennial 2013 between January 25, 2013 and February 3, 2013. We, at the festival office, are extremely grateful to our well-wishers who helped spread the word and provided a strong foundation to the start of the residency.

Avolites Pearl Expert Titan

Attakkalari's technical division - Transmedia Technologies - has recently purchased a brand new Lighting Console.  The Pearl Expert Titan manufactured by Avolites (UK) is one of the most advanced Lighting Consoles available today.  The console runs a Windows XP based Titan operating system, and offers the versatility to control conventional lighting fixtures as well as intelligent lighting fixtures with ease.

The Pearl Expert Titan with its touchscreen interface, called the Touch Wing, makes running even the most complicated of shows seem easy.

PECDA 2012

Diya Naidu and Ronita Mookerji senior dancers from the Attakkalari Repertory have been shortlisted for the Prakriti Excellence in Contemporary Dance Awards (PECDA) 2012.

Both Diya and Ronita will present their individual short choreographic works at the final selection on August 25th and 26th, 2012 at the Museum Theatre in Chennai.
