Summer Camp for young people

The Multi-disciplinary summer workshop offered by Attakkalari this year is getting more exciting than ever! The first batch of the summer camp – from 9th April, 2016 to 22nd April, 2016 – has generated overwhelming response and is brimming with registrations beyond capacity and the registrations for the second batch – from 30th April, 2016 to 13th May, 2016 – have already been started and in steady progress.
The first batch focuses on the idea of growing up and explores the emotional and psychological aspects of it through different stages of a young person's life. Drawing techniques, processes and influences from creative movement arts, theatre and martial arts the joyful sessions will meaningfully blend these strands to culminate in a multidisciplinary performance.  The first batch of the summer camp has registrations from young persons from across the country. They join three different groups according to their age - juniors (5 - 8), seniors (9 - 12) and Teens (13 - 18). There will be a public performance by this batch on 22nd April evening at Jawahar Bal Bhavan Auditorium in Cubbon Park, Bangalore.
For the Second batch, apart from the three age groups offered in the first batch, there will be another group -young adults (Ages 19 – 25) – making this batch even more inclusive. Please keep an eye on Attakkalari's Facebook page for the details of the concept and public presentation of this batch.
They include Stefano Fardelli (dancer and choreographer from Italy who works internationally), Ronita Mookerji (a senior dancer trained with Attakkalari and has been part of international projects in Korea, Japan, Australia & Germany), Denny Paul (winner of Robert Bosch young choreographer award and has performed in many countries across the world) and many more including acclaimed theatre artistes such as D Prasanna (alumnus of National School of Drama, visiting faculty at Hyderabad University, Director of Kannada production of Peer Gynt etc). For very young kids, experienced female facilitators will lead the sessions to ensure safety and comfort.
The registrations fees for the workshop is as follows: Juniors (Rs.3000), Seniors (Rs.3500), Teens (Rs.4000) and Young Adults (Rs.4500). Attakkalari is also offering attractive discounts like 10% for two or more siblings enrolling in the workshop and 5% as institutional discount if enrolments are routed through schools or colleges interested to collaborate.  So do not wait further and secure your place at the earliest!

Diploma in Movement Arts and Mixed Media – Auditions for 2016

Attakkalari’s flagship program has started accepting students for the next batch beginning September 2016. This year, it is getting more exciting as Attakkalari is offering a second year with advanced skills training and creative tasks. Apart from advanced technique classes the curriculum will include sessions on choreography, dance pedagogy, interdisciplinary dance-making, student-led projects, research, writing and practical assignments that would give the students hands-on experience and exposure to the professional world of dance. The Auditions have already begun in Bengaluru and in few other cities.
Some of the recent and upcoming auditions are listed below -

  • 19th March, 2016 in Jaipur at the Busker Dance Studio.
  • 16th April, 2016 at 2.30 pm in Bengaluru at Attakkalari studios in Wilson Garden.
  • 1st May, 2016 from 9 am to 12 noon in Mumbai at National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA).
  • 1st May, 2016 from 5 pm to 8 pm in Pune at Kalachhaya Cultural Centre.
  • The Artistic Director, Jayachandran Palazhy along with two dancers from the Repertory, also facilitated an open-class for the students of the Manipal University, Jaipur on 19th March. They will host open workshops combined with the auditions mentioned above in Mumbai and Pune on 1st May at NCPA (9 am to 12 noon) and Kalachhaya Cultural Centre (5 pm to 8 pm) respectively.

    Premiere of ISSHH(क) - Co-production with Swiss choreographer
    A group of senior dancers from Attakkalari’s repertory company are involved in a co-production with Swiss choreographer, Nicole Seiler. They had their initial session of rehearsals at the Attakkalari Studios in Bengaluru between mid-December 2015 and mid-March 2016. The team is now away in Lausanne, Switzerland where they are engaged in the final stages of the production rehearsals. The piece which has strong links to Indian Cinema and incorporates several elements from the many of iconic Bollywood movies is named ISSHH(क) and will be staged at The Arsenic, Lausanne from 19th to 24th April,2016.

    Attakkalari Repertory Company Performances

    The Attakkalari Repertory recently performed in Jaipur at the Navras Festival hosted by Jawahar Kala Kendra on occasion of the inauguration of their recently refurbished campus. This cultural fiesta was held from 15th to 22nd March and Attakkalari performed its much acclaimed piece, Meidhwani: Echoes of the Body on 18th March at the Madhyavarti Open Air Theatre at 7.00 pm to a packed and enthralled audience. This piece captures the urban Indian experience, combining the fragility of solitude, the chaos of turmoil expressed through captivating images as well as fluid and at times electrifyingly exuberant movement sequences. The Repertory will also be performing at the Sophia Bhabha auditorium in Mumbai for the Jugnee festival on 30th April, 2016.

     
    Artistic Director as a Speaker at SYCon 2016

    Attakkalari’s artistic director, Jayachandran Palazhy, was invited to be a speaker at SYCon (SSN Youth Conference) 2016, an annual conference organized by the entrepreneurship cell at SSN College of Engineering, Chennai. The conference invites people who have succeeded in various walks of life to inspire students, share their stories and make them more aware of different ways in which careers could be shaped. The Conference was held on 29th March, 2016 at the Main auditorium of SSN College camps in Chennai. Each speaker offered a speech for about 20 minutes and then had an interactive panel of discussion with the audience.

         
    Artistic Director’s visit to the European countries

    To participate in international festivals, premiere shows, to network with eminent artistes and to plan for the upcoming Attakkalari India Biennial festival (3 to 12 February, 2017), Attakkalari’s artistic director, Jayachandran Palazhy has been travelling to various places over the last few months. He will be visiting Lausanne during 18th to 21st April for the premiere of the co-production that Attakkalari’s repertory dancers are working with the Swiss Choreographer, Nicole Seiler. After which, he will be visiting Pilsen (Czech Republic) to attend the Aerowave Festival from 22nd to 24th April, 2016.

     
    Join the Biennial 2017 band-wagon!
