Times of India/21,May,2006: GERMANY GETS A PEEK AT THE "NEW INDIA"
BONN: The place a darkened converted factory in the heart of the staid, provincial former capital of Germany. The action several-hundred Germans are in their seats in the converted Halle Beuel theatre, quietly waiting for the evening's performance of Purushartha to start.

As cliches go, one can hear a pin drop. But once the show starts, Bangalore theatre company Attakalari's "world premiere" of its New Age play-without-words delights and deafens the audience.

It is a sell-out show. The wordless actors are given a rock-star send-off with multiple curtain-calls, rumbustious cheering, claps that soar to the rooftops and much stamping of feet.

And the Bonn Biennale, one of Europe's best-known cultural festivals, tots up yet another hit in its first-ever attempt to bring the very essence of modern India to a resurgent Germany all too used to harking back to fond memories of the "mystic" Oriental giant it has long loved from afar.
